On August 20, at our base in Šiauliai, was a ceremony to award the winner of the 14th season of the ECO League. The winner, Rustam, was personally awarded by the Head of Transport Department, Darius Kubelis, colleagues from the administration and drivers had the opportunity to congratulate Rustam and enjoy a piece of festive cake.
Meet the winner
Rustam our driver from Tajikistan, joined the team of Girteka drivers having only CE category experience in his home country. In just one year, Rustam not only mastered the specifics of driving in Europe but also became the best this season.
The secret of success
We asked Rustam to share what helped him achieve such a high result. He told us:
“Even during my traineeship, I paid a lot of attention to eco-driving and asked my mentor lots of questions. When I started working independently, I already understand how the eco-driving system works, but I continued to monitor all changes in my eco-score and improve it whenever possible.”
Wisdom from Grandfather
When we asked Rustam if he likes working at Girteka, he said he picked the company to work in Europe based on recommendations and has never regretted his choice. Continuing this thought, Rustam shared a piece of life advice his grandfather gave him:
When you plant a tree, at first it seems like it isn’t growing at all, but all that time it is strengthening its roots, and then it starts to grow. It’s the same with work: if you constantly change the ‘soil’ or conditions, you don’t give yourself a chance to strengthen and grow. Growth requires patience and stability.
Every day – an excursion
Rustam also likes that all work processes at Girteka are well-organized, and the system works efficiently. He responds with a smile to his colleagues’ comments that many routes run along national roads, saying:
These routes are very interesting and picturesque, every day is like an excursion. You don’t even notice when your working hours are over, and you should stop for a break.
Colleagues about Rustam
According to driver manager Gytis Petrauskas, Rustam’s achievements highlight his talent and hard work. His story is a great example of a person who came to a new country, quickly adapted, and achieved success.
Rustam is always in a good mood, and his attitude toward work speaks for itself—he truly came to work and earn money. Even after receiving an ECO League award, he did not wait around and immediately went on a trip again. Such a colleague is an example of a real driver. If Rustam has a problem, he looks for a way to solve it, rather than passing it on to a colleague. With drivers like Rustam, managers can be sure that the job will be done in the best possible way.
Rustam also receives compliments from the mechanics at our transport base in Šiauliai. Throughout the trip, he carefully monitors and maintains the cleanliness of the truck and semi-trailer. “It’s nice to work and not to feel embarrassed in front of your colleagues when you hand over the truck!” says our colleague.
We thank Rustam for his professional and responsible approach to work, loyalty, and dedication to his job. We wish him continued success and hope he enjoys the beautiful routes together with Girteka!
